We start with the site, the light and the budget —
in that order.
Most of our work is one building at a time. We draw it ourselves, we detail it ourselves, and we are on site when it matters. If the budget will not carry an idea, we change the idea rather than the budget.
Two of us have been making things with our hands for longer than we have been drawing them.

Fair-faced concrete
Cast against rough-sawn boards. Every mark is the formwork's, not ours.
Oiled oak
Left to darken. Never stained.
Lime plaster
Applied by hand, so it moves with the building.
Blackened steel
For the parts that have to stay thin.
We keep a sample of each on the table, so a client can put a hand on it before it leaves the drawing.
